Reimagined Motifs
seamless pattern design · printed products · deda things
The traditional tiles and motifs of Anatolia have shaped the landscape of Türkiye — and they have also shaped my upbringing, growing up around my mother and her work in Kütahya. She dedicated herself to reinterpreting motifs and patterns, decorating ceramic objects such as plates, bowls, and other pieces — both figurative and abstract.
In Lisbon, I discovered new motifs. Different tiles now cover different landscapes, using this shared visual language to build new patterns. While creating a pattern for my brand Deda Things — where I create handmade ceramics, jewellery, and wearables (shop coming soon!) — it felt natural to continue this path: reinterpreting and creating new imagery that feels slightly freer and more contemporary, yet still close enough to its origins to remain recognisable.
